Level of Community Spread for Schools

9/4/2020 Update: Central District Health Simplifies School Category Determinations for Weekly Reporting
Central District Health (CDH) has established new metrics for determining weekly school operation categories in Ada, Boise, Elmore, and Valley Counties. The new system keeps Red, Yellow and Green color categories and recommended level of operations, but replaces the previous category definitions with average case rates calculated for each county. CDH will use a two-week average of daily COVID-19 cases calculated per 100,000 people in a given county. The new system is aimed at simplifying the way categories for schools are determined within CDH’s four-county jurisdiction. Read More.

For counties with fewer than 100,000 people, case rate thresholds have been adjusted and a calculation is used to provide an even comparison across counties.

ABOUT THE CATEGORIES: View the category breakdowns and corresponding levels of operation.

  • Average daily case rates are calculated using a two-week average of COVID-19 cases per 100,000 people in a given county.
    • For corresponding data, see our Tableau page and view the respective county tab
  • These categories are recommendations only and final decisions are made by local school boards.
  • Private and charter schools should use the category based on the address of their facility and associated school district boundary.
  • These are weekly assessments of community spread and will updated on Mondays.
  • If category designations are adjusted, then schools and families should expect transition time as changes may or may not be immediate.
  • For counties with fewer than 25,000 people, case rate thresholds have been adjusted because small changes in reported cases can greatly impact rates.

Date: June 1, 2021 [updated every Monday by 2:00 p.m.]

NOTE: Data for Ada, Boise, Elmore, and Valley County are current and up to date. Rates are based on current data entry and do not take into account backlogged labs.

The last Weekly School Category report was on June 1, 2021, for the 2020-2021 school year. CDH will not post Weekly School Category reports during the summer semester but will resume once the 2021-2022 school year begins.
