Obesity now rivals tobacco as the leading cause of preventable death and disease. Being overweight or obese increases the risk of many diseases and chronic health conditions. The related cost to the U.S. health care system is estimated to be over $100 billion.
As increasing numbers of children and adults are identified as being overweight or obese, Central District Health has made it a priority to improve physical activity and nutrition in the Ada, Boise, Valley and Elmore counties by focusing on developing policies and making environmental changes to help people make the healthy choice the easy choice.
