CDH, Boise School District Offering WIC Clinics at Taft

BOISE, Feb. 6, 2024 – Central District Health is partnering with the Boise School District to present a pilot program that offers free WIC clinics at elementary schools to support families who qualify for the program.

WIC (Women, Infants and Children) is a federally funded nutrition program for pregnant women, new mothers, infants and children up to five years old. The program promotes healthy lifestyles, provides nutritious supplemental foods, breastfeeding support, and nutrition education and referrals to health care services at no cost to eligible families.

“With this partnership we hope to make it easier for families living within the Boise School District to access WIC services, whether it is to register for the program or to do follow up visits,” said Kristi Lakatos, CDH WIC outreach coordinator. “About half of the families who qualify for WIC don’t apply, and we want to help change that.”

The first WIC clinic took place at Taft Elementary school on Jan.19 and will continue in that location on a monthly basis, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Feb. 9, March 8, April 12 and May 10. People who want an appointment can sign up in advance, walk-ins are also welcome.

CDH established a similar partnership with West Ada School District in 2023 and currently offers clinics 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday at the Community Resources building in Meridian Elementary school.
