Oral Health Programs at CDH
CDH Oral Health Programs focus on the prevention of oral diseases in children. Education and preventive dental services are offered through the First Teeth Matter Program, School Sealant Clinics, and Fluoride Varnish Clinics.
First Teeth Matter
CDH’s First Teeth Matter clinic can help reduce the chance of cavities in your child —from your child’s first tooth to age three.
Dental caries (tooth decay) is the most common chronic disease of childhood.
Twenty-four percent of U.S. children between two and four years of age have experienced dental decay.
First Teeth Matter appointments in our Boise location are offered the first Wednesday of each month from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and the 3rd Monday of the month from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Appointments are required.
If you want to schedule at a different location, please call the office nearest you.

WIC-Based Fluoride Varnish Clinics
Fluoride Varnish Clinics provide dental screenings, fluoride varnish applications and education to Medicaid to eligible and uninsured children. A fluoride varnish application will help prevent teeth from getting cavities. These clinics are offered at no charge to the families of children 6 months to 5 years old.
The Fluoride Varnish Clinics are held daily at Central District Health offices. Call the nearest office to schedule an appointment.
CDH provides limited dental services for children.

FAQS
The clinic’s goal is to prevent cavities in children — from their first tooth to three years — which is a period before many kids begin to regularly visit a dentist. Our licensed dental hygienist provides parents and care-givers with information about early preventive dental health. When your child turns three and graduates from our program, we can help you find a dental home if you do not already have one.
During your visit, you will meet with a licensed dental hygienist who will talk with you and do a visual screening of your child’s mouth. The visit will help determine your child’s risk for developing cavities, include dental health information specific to your child, and the application of dental fluoride varnish. Visits last approximately 20 minutes.
CDH’s First Teeth Matter visits are affordable and open to all families regardless of income and insurance status. A nominal fee is charged to all participants. This fee is covered by Medicaid for eligible children. This program is eligible for a sliding-fee scale.
