CDH staff focuses on preventing the spread of diseases in our community. We work to keep you up-to-date on the latest information and guidance regarding illnesses.
IDHW – Idaho Reportable Disease List
There are over 70 different conditions that are reportable to public health in Idaho. When someone is diagnosed with one of these diseases, CDH epidemiologists:
- work to find out the source of illness,
- determine if other people may have been exposed or if an outbreak has occurred,
- provide education to help prevent re-infection, and
- recommend if people should stay home to prevent the illness from spreading.

Tuberculosis (TB) is an infection caused by the bacteria Mycobacterium tuberculosis. This bacterium can cause both active disease and latent infections. Individuals with active TB disease can spread the bacteria, while those with latent infections cannot. Active TB disease most often affects the lungs. Learn more about TB.
Foodborne illnesses, sometimes known as “food poisoning,” are caused by consuming food or beverages contaminated with disease-causing bacteria, viruses and parasites. Hepatitis is inflammation of the liver. Viral hepatitis specifically refers to liver inflammation caused by a virus. There are five types of viral hepatitis, but the most common in the United States are hepatitis A, hepatitis B and hepatitis C. Click here to learn more about viral hepatitis.

If you are ill and diagnosed with a reportable illness, you do not have to self-report. Physician and laboratories are required to report specific diseases or conditions to public health departments. Public health is required to follow-up on all reportable diseases or conditions and will contact you then.

Local Health Districts Warn About Sharp Increase in Pertussis Cases
Central District Health (CDH) and Southwest District Health (SWDH) advise that there have been 171 cases of pertussis (aka. whooping cough) reported in the region so far this year. This is a sharp increase compared to 10 cases total for 2023.
Health officials investigate outbreak linked to raw milk
Idaho Public Health officials are investigating recent reports of 18 people who recently experienced symptoms of, and tested positive for, Campylobacter, and who also reported purchasing and drinking unpasteurized (raw) milk from Paradise Grove Dairy.
Change of Services to Minors
As of July 1, 2024, as per Idaho’s Senate Bill 1329, except as otherwise provided by court order, parental consent is required for those under 18 years of age. Central District Health can’t provide health care services to a minor child without obtaining the prior consent of the minor child's parent or legal guardian.
Vaping Education, Resources Available to Parents/Guardians
Central District Health is offering free virtual CATCH My Breath training sessions throughout the year. Parents and guardians will learn important facts about the youth vaping epidemic and discover resources available for their families to help reduce youth vaping.
